Decodable word lists by pattern.
Decodable words use only the letter-sound patterns a reader has already been taught, so a child can sound out every one instead of guessing. These free lists group common decodable words by pattern, from short vowels through vowel teams. Every word is checked to use only the graphemes of its stage, so nothing on a list needs a rule the reader has not met yet. Pick a pattern, then copy or print the list.

Each list is filtered so the only vowel is the one the pattern teaches, which means a word can appear only if it uses graphemes already introduced by that stage. Words like race or gem are left off the early lists on purpose, because their soft c and g are a later rule. The lists are common English words, not every possible one, and they are our own selection of unprotectable facts (which letters make which sound), not any program's word list.

What is a decodable word?
A word a reader can sound out using only the letter-sound patterns already taught. Before vowel teams are taught, rain is not decodable; ran is.
How do I use these in a lesson?
Pick the pattern you are teaching, copy or print the list, and use it for blending practice, dictation, or a quick review. Each list stays inside a single pattern so there are no surprises.
Are these tied to a specific program?
No. The patterns and the six syllable types are public Orton-Gillingham aligned structured literacy constructs. The word selection is our own and is not copied from any commercial program. See the full scope and sequence.
